I thought I could feel a little more side to side jerking on my pickup going over uneven overpasses on the interstate. New trailers are offering the anti flex tube from front to back. Also my personal choice is duals on at least 32'. Also had some wiring issues on that one (brand new ). Their frame under the tail is crude in that particular situation. We ran Pj and Delta side by side this fall hauling round bales and the Pj would get hung up going out field driveways too easy. I'm partial to Delta and Schuchard's of Watertown. Your choice will probably come down to dealer and price if you're going new. Try out the ramps, can you lift them? Are they made so the trailer ball doesn't have to hold the whole weight? I would think an 18 ft bed would be long enough. So most companies heavy 14,000 lb trailers would work but be basically maxed out. That means they do what they are rated for but are not overbuilt. If you get a good dual 7,000 lb axle, it would haul it but be right at it's limits.Ĭommercially built trailers tend to be built with some engineering involved. I think with that backhoe though, I'd go heavy and a triple axle. Triple axle will haul more but also scuff a lot when turning and be harder on tires. It's like getting a semi and flatbed to haul your lawnmower around. Dragging the weight around can be a bit much. That's fine, depends on how you are going to use it. Some people just go for the heaviest built. Oh yeah, dual tandems NOT tri axle single tires. The only reason I'd get a 24' would be if you have some really tight spots to get into. I'd say you could get the hoe on a 24' dove tail but my preference would be 32' dove tail with flat fold ramps so it is more useful for hauling other stuff. Personally I like the pierced frame, it lowers the bed by about 5 or 6". There are many good brands, look for quality of workmanship, axle rating, quality of wiring and tires, (both ply and brand. Just looking on their website, see they have an air-ride system for the trailers, if I were to buy one again I would definitely be getting it with that on there.
The only thing I don't like about it is the "powder coat" paint job it pathetic, generously speaking. It's got a 25' deck with 5' beaver tail with 3 fold over ramps that are level with the deck when folded. So far I haven't been able to find one heavier built.
